One Bangladeshi is also included in the 10 people who died in the fire, including 9 Indian workers. A fire service official said it took them four hours to douse the fire. Nine Indians and one Bangladeshi national are among the dead. They recovered 10 bodies from the top floor of a building destroyed in the fire. It is being told that the fire started in the car repair garage on the ground floor of the building.

The Indian embassy said that it is in touch with the Maldives government regarding the incident. The High Commission of India has also released the helpline numbers issued to help the victims.

The National Disaster Management Authority of Maldives tweeted that a relief and rescue center has been set up in a stadium for the victims of the fire in Male. Due to this painful incident in Male, the matter of bad conditions for foreign workers working here has once again come under discussion.

Maldivian political parties have criticized the conditions for foreign workers working here. They are believed to make up about half of Male’s population of 250,000 and are mostly from Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. During the Corona period, the case of the pathetic condition of foreign workers in the Maldives first came to the fore. At that time, the corona infection spread among foreign workers three times faster than among the local people of Maldives.
